THE UNSTOPPABLE WORD
Lawrence Nelson refers to it as “the most gadabout
book since time began!!” And he titles
his book about it – “THE ROVING BIBLE”.
Indeed it is.
It has been translated into more languages than any
other volume. It has outsold all its
rivals. It is the unstoppable Word of
God.
***************
1. IT
CANNOT BE BOUND! … II Timothy 2:9
“Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of
David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer,
even unto bonds; but the word of God
is not bound.” (KJV)
and
“Because I preach the Good News, I suffer and I am
even chained like a criminal. But
the word of God is not in chains.” (Good News Bible)
God’s workers may find themselves in chains … but
the message of God’s Word cannot be thus confined. It continues to spread.
2. IT
CANNOT BE BURNED! … Jeremiah 36
Oh, yes, you may toss the pages into a roaring fire
as King Jehoiakim of Judah did in Jeremiah’s day (vs. 21-23). But not only was it written again as God
revealed it to His servant … but the message of the Word could not be
restrained. The prophecy came true (vs.
27 ff).
3. IT
CANNOT BE BANISHED! … Amos 7:10-17
God’s prophet, Amos, is banished from the House of
Israel. But although the man is gone
from that place the message he delivered remains until the fulfilment takes
place.
4. IT
CANNOT BE BROKEN! … John 10:35
“Then the Jews took up stones again to stone
him. Jesus answered them, ‘Many good
works have I shewed you from my Father;
for which of those works do ye stone me?’ The Jews answered him, saying, ‘For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.’ Jesus answered them, ‘Is it not written in
your law, I said, Ye are gods?’ If he
called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot
be broken; say ye of him, whom the
Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, ‘Thou blasphemest’; because I said, I am the Son of God? If I do not the works of my Father, believe
me not. But if I do, though ye believe
not me, believe the works: that ye may
know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.”
Here is a difficult passage of Scripture. Accused by the Jews of ‘making Himself God’
(v. 33), the Lord Jesus replies that even in Psalm 82:6 men are spoken of as
gods!! (v. 34).
The reference seems to be to the fact that these men
were God’s representatives. Or some
commentators suggest that God calls them ‘gods’ in irony, because of their
proud disposition.
In any case, the Lord Jesus adds that the Scripture
cannot be broken (v. 35).
It is everlastingly true. Nor can we ‘break it’ into parts that we accept and parts that we
reject. It is God’s Word in entirety.
Read it … and heed it!
