MEDICAL  UPDATES   10-13

    UPDATE No. 10 ( Friday April 22 . 2005 )

             Hi ... friends ...!

There was a young lady named Barbie

who dressed up in a sweet nurse's garb. He

felt some hot tea

poured on his tum-mee

... it made him jump like a horse in the Derby !

...........................................

Well  !! .... the news is that I saw Doctor No. 2 last Wednesday ( Dr. Daisy is No. 1  !)  ... he says the chemo- treatment will continue once every three weeks,  overnight,  in hospital ... then we will see if the cancer has shrunk enough to chop it out.

Sounds O.K. to me.

Next Tuesday, God willing ,  I'll be in hospital for dose No. 3 !

At the moment ... no side effects. ( Tho' the chemo-therapy leaves me a bit groggy for a few  days following . And I did find three hairs on my pillow this morning ... but I think that is simply due to old age ! )

Food still slithers down the oesophagus past the tumor . I'm not bed-ridden or in pain .

I can still hop in the car and visit second-hand book shops.  And this past week I was able to get to  church on Sunday and  to the  Wed. night mid-week meeting  !

Methinks your prayers are working !!  Thank-you  !!!   And ....

Donald  ( in his new beanie ... ready for when the hair does disappear ! ...) ....

 UPDATE No. 11

                  It's me again ... still rejoicing !  ( Philippians 4:4 )

And still trying out various headwear ....

Maybe this one suits me ????

                  And I'm feeling reasonably well.

I got to church twice last Sunday and the mid-week meeting last Wed. night. !

But  I didn't get to hospital as planned last Tuesday ... Barbie rang, as they requested, at 9:00 a.m.

and they said it was not until next Tuesday ( i.e. this coming Tuesday ).

We always have to ring first  incase no bed is available or incase the Doctor is out playing golf ....

So I've had a whole week without one needle being stuck in me ........

Barbie always like to come with me to tell the Doctor things I might have forgotten ...

I wish the chemo- therapy would get rid of the cancer as easily as it is getting rid of my hair...

Every time I comb it ... more and more is coming out ....

It's not this bad yet ....  but another month or so and I'll look like this .....

UPDATE No. 12 !! ( Saturday May 7th )

'tis Donald ...

..... just home from 6 days in hospital !! But they have only given me 'day leave' and I have to be back at 5:00 p.m.

('Cos all the nurses are missing me !! as you can well imagine ... )

I was supposed to go in for chemo last Tuesday (3rd.)  but a severe  angina attack landed me in the cardilogy ward last Monday 2nd.. So chemo-therapy was postponed until the Wednesday 4th.  .. I was taken up to the cancer ward ...  but  20 minutes before the chemo treatment commenced was another angina attack so it was back to the cardiology ward.

There was I sitting up in a trolley being whizzed around the corridors of the hospital from one ward to another .   I felt something like royalty, waving to passers-by as I went !

Yesterday ( 5th) I was given an angiogram ( it was supposed to take half-an-hour but took one and a half hours ! )  ... and a stent was popped into a blocked artery ... then today it was back to the cancer ward

ready for chemo this coming Monday. ( 9th.)

Just on 30 emails were awaiting my arrival home today ... not all read yet ... but I wanted to get this off to y'all !

I'm still trying out new hats to cover my increasing baldness ....

As Fanny Crosby says in the closing lines on her hymn ( first verse ) , " All the way my Saviour leads me " ...

           " For I know whate'er befall me

Jesus doeth all things well !"

 And I believe that's true !! ( Do I hear an "AMEN " ? )

      God bless;

            Donald

(UPDATE No. 13    Tuesday May 10th.)

   Hi !!

               After 8 days in hospital ... I'm home !

They popped in a stent last Thursday  and popped in a dose of Chemo yesterday ... and I didn't 'pop off' after either of them.

Truth to tell I haven't had nausea or dizziness or any side effects thus far.

Maybe the chemo isn't working ??

Or , more likely , your prayers are !    Thank you.

Only problem is that I lost the last four hairs from my manly bronzed Anzac chest when someone  ripped off the sticking plaster  this morning  (with fiendish delight). I think they take out raffle tickets to see who is going to do it. Today the cleaning lady won....

My next trip to hospital is not for another three weeks  ...unless  something untoward develops ...

I must tell you a most curious thing that happened whilst I was in the coronary ward... the Malaysian nurse said in her broken English that she would show me a video on 'Living in China'.  I surely wondered why !!!!

So she plugged it in , out in the nurses' station , and ran it thru' my ward's TV set ... I settled back to enjoy the travel-talk ... instead of which I had misunderstood her accent .

It was "Living with Angina !!"

Which wasn't half as exciting as I had anticipated.

I'm sorry I cannot answer all the emails personally ... there were twenty since two days ago ... and I really appreciate them.

  God bless !!!

 Hi , everyone !

Just a note to let you know I'm still here ... the last few days I was feeling a bit 'dizzy' ... I didn't even get to church last Sunday.

It seems the medication ... a patch I have to wear  ... plays up with something or other.

I saw my local G.P. ... Dr. Daisy ! ...  yesterday

... and told her that it was affecting me, quite sure that she would say , "Stop using it."  Instead if which she smiled nicely and said " Don't be naughty ( or words to that effect ) ... wear it !"  And you know I can't resist a pretty smile ...

So I am  back to popping on the patch.

A couple of months of chemo ( every 3 weeks ) and then an operation is planned.

I'm still experimenting with new headwear ready for when my hair disappears....  tho' it has been

suggested I could just brush my eyebrows back to cover the possible forthcoming baldness ....

Do you think this suits me ?
